The imperial mandate was issued by the royal court to the parents of Lu Xixiong in the 45th year of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty (1780). The imperial mandate was written on the luxurious five-color brocade, with auspicious clouds dotted on it. The text was written in Manchu and Chinese, with Manchu on the left side and Chinese on the right side, separated by the central axis. A “Treasure of the Emperor (Zhi Gao Zhi Bao)” seal was affixed at the end of both Manchu and Chinese text, which is an important example of the honor system in the Qing Dynasty, and an important object reflecting the cultural prosperity of Shanghai in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
